Crusader Kings 2

Some would say that the Middle Ages were…tumultuous. Spanning from the 8th Century, to the close of the 15th, it was a period of time mired by incestuous blood feuds, wars with the pope, or constant political backstabs…or at least that was what happened in my latest game of Crusader Kings 2. CK2 deviates from the normal build of most 4x-style games. Your not micromanaging the trade routes of the kingdom, or building soldiers prepping for war, its all about the internal politics and the inner workings of your court. This grand strategy game is certainly grand, and quite daunting a task to grasp with the massive amounts of menus and gameplay elements to grasp. However, with time invested into it, I’ve yet to find a game that can be so engaging, and before you know it, hours has disappeared as you begin plotting assassinations, appointing  suitors for your children (or siring children from them yourself, if no suitable suitors exist) , and overall planning to create a dynasty that will last for ages to come.

CK2’s interface and amount of rules is enormous, but leads to a wonderful storytelling game once figured out.
