APE OUT is a fantastic, frantic twin-stick shooter that a simple premise that is played out perfectly to a T. You are an escaped Ape from a facility with numerous arm guards attempt to gun you down. While it sounds simple, what Ape Out succeeds is the incredible blend of style, art, music and gameplay. The music is a style of frantic, high paced jazz that is incredibly catchy. The art style is a minimalistic approach that works great. Your ape is orange, the enemies are white, and the screen soon fills with red, yellow, and other vibrant colors as the game progresses. The beauty of this game is the blending of the fast paced combat, and the excellent sound design, every hit from the ape will elicit a cymbal hit and a large explosion of sound from the track, as if the music is adapting to what your character is doing. The game is short, only around 5 hours to complete, but this game is certainly something worth the time put in.
