Many games are shown from the side of the hero in the war. Guns are blazing, buildings are exploding and the opponents are perishing at your valor. Think for a second, what about everyone else involved in this war of yours? That house you blew up what someone’s home, where memories, families, and experiences were created over the years. Now it’s a pile of rubble at your feet. This War of Mine takes a look at the side of civilians trying to eek out a living during a war. You wont see the conflict that happening in that other game, only the distant sounds of gunfire in the background. With an accompanying somber soundtrack, the only goal of this game is to survive with a group of refugees that you look over. Starting out in a bombed out house, your group of survivors have to scavenge for food and water, while also finding supplies to try to keep the morale of your survivors up over the course of the game. Have it fall too low, and they may desert or resort to drastic measure to end the sadness. The game starts at a decent pace, giving you supplies to work with in some areas that are easy to scavenge, but then the difficulty begins to ramp up at a fast pace. Do you raid a house of an old couple, unable to fight back and making feeble attempts to try to get you to stop? Do you risk going into the military- occupied areas, avoiding sniper fire trying to find cans of food to survive the upcoming cold snap? Its these kinds of things and more that make this game a must play.
