Losing is fun in Life Goes On. In fact, its the only way your able to progress in this comedic puzzle game. Your character is presented an impossible obstacle course to complete the level. You will inevitably die, and then you start at the beginning with a new character. The catch is that your former comrade’s body stays on the stage. With this is mind the gameplay reveals itself. Your soon throwing knights into spike pits, sawblades, and in front of flamethrowers in order to ensure that progress is made. You have an unlimited amount of knights to throw at the problem; as long as one makes it to the chalice at the end of the level, it is considered a success!
The game’s tone is in a comically dark tone that wouldn’t be out of place in a Monty Python sketch. Each knight you spawn has a flamboyant name that is unceremoniously scratched off a list after perishing. At the very end of the level, you see your surviving knight pushing a cart of all the dead knights that dies in the level, with varying degrees of struggle depending on how many died. The visuals are jaw dropping, but serviceable, and the simplicity help gives it an “indie allure”. The only negatives I can really give this game is that it is criminally short. It only lasts around 6-7 hours at the most, and that’s after doing it on harder challenge levels. It stands to either have a sequel or expanded content added on.
In conclusion, Life Goes On is a neat short puzzle game that you can easily lose an afternoon to and enjoy yourself with.
