If there is one word I could use to summarize Star Ruler 2, it would be: Scale. No 4x game I have played has ever gotten the true scope of how big space can be as well as Star Ruler 2. Every single part of this game focuses on the macro scale of performance. By the endgame, you will be controlling thousands of worlds, supermassive fleets, and making your way to controlling a galaxy. It is quite simply one of the most in-depth space sims I’ve ever played, yet it is relatively unknown. First off, this game finally seems to make diplomacy interesting. By using a card based system to earn better control over systems, providing buffs to areas, and giving a short term empire-wide buff to an economy. This system helps to improve a mostly forgotten part of the genre. Combat is absolutely awe-inspiring. fights can span to thousands of ships per side, coupled with massive flagships the size of small stars. Seeing the fight on screen is something else, even for a game that around 5 years old at this time. The game might require some optimization changes for your computer to keep it from chugging on the bigger fights, but it ultimately does not detract from the whole.
All in all, this game provides a proper feeling to the massive scale of space conquest and warfare. Whole weekends can be lost with this game, and is something that you should definitely try if you are a fan of the genre.
